Robert Smith was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He loved going to the fair and just hanging out with people and just talking. He also loved getting his house ready for any of the holidays. As alot of you might know, me and my brother loved having our family at all of our games. We always knew that when we would see grandpa at our games he would either have a pop or coffee with him even though it would be 90 deggres out side. I will never forget when we go out to dinner it was always "coffee, cream, and a glass of water". I will really miss those words. I loved grandpas laugh and his smile. I also remember when I was younger, when grandpa would fall asleep on the couch I would twist a tissue and tickle his ears or his nose and sure enough I would see that smile that we all loved very much. I don't know if grandpa knew this but when I heard that he was in the hospital I heard about prayer notes, and I wrote one for grandpa. I don't know if god heard me, but if he could hear me now, please take care of my grandpa he is a great man not just to me but all of his family and friends. Grandpa you will always be with me no matter where I'm at or who I'm with. I love you alot and miss you very much. Love, your grandson Kent.

My condolences to Bill, Pat, Keith, Kent and "Grandma" (Sylvia).  I've never called them Robert or Sylvia.  To me, It's always been just "Kent's grandparents".  They are part of the immediate family!  Growing up (before cell phones), if Kent wasn't home, I knew to check grandpa's house for his car.  When I would see Kent's grandpa in public, he would always update me on the family.  He was a joy to talk with and he was clearly very proud of his family.  He will be sadly missed.

I never seem to know the right words to say during times like these. Everything that comes out of my mouth seems so uncomforting, akward and unemotional. During the short time that I have been apart of the Cheney family I have relearned how to feel close to the people I love most. This is due to the close bonds and loving nurture of this family. The cheney's are there for one another when times are good and when times are a struggle. I am glad to be apart of this family but now and then I have to stand back and feel some what envious that my own family lacks the bonds and closeness that the Cheney's posses. On sundays Kent and I would go visit his family, I would walk into the living room and greet Bob. From what I got to know of him, I would say Bob was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Bob would be sitting in a recliner with a cup of black coffee just enjoying the company of his family. In some ways I feel as though I have lost my grandfather again. I know that no one was ready to say goodbye to Bob and that God delt him a terrible hand. However, I like to think that Bob is in a better place. Maybe he is with my grandfather and both of them are sitting in their recliners watching the buckeyes play.
He will be missed but not forgotten...
You all are in my thoughts...
Love, Ashley Scott
