J. Charles Cramer

J. Charles Cramer, age 87 of Richwood died Tuesday morning, October 21, 2008 at Heartland of Marysville. He was born August 28, 1921 in Bradner to the late Charles E. and Ruby (McKill) Cramer.

He was a 1943 graduate of Wittenberg College before serving in the U. S. Army 262nd Infantry Regiment, 66th division in the European Theatre during World War II. On July 27, 1947, in York Center he married the former Chaslea Morrow who died October 9, 2006. Shortly after getting married, he became a school teacher and principal of Byhalia-York School. After that, he and his wife faithfully served as missionaries in McAllen, Texas on the Mexico/Texas Border for 16 years and in Honduras Central America for 15 years through World Gospel Mission. He and his wife were former members of McKendree and Bethel U. M. Churches and he was a current member of Marysville Church of the Nazarene. He pastored at the former Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Mt. Victory. In 1995 they retired to Avon Park, Florida.

He is survived by a daughter, Florence (Russell) Borland, Richwood; two sons, Chuck Cramer, Pittsburgh, PA; David (Kim) Cramer, Vero Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, two brothers, John (Juanita) Cramer, West Mansfield; and Walter (Mary) Cramer, Bellefontaine. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel Cramer and a sister Gayle Botkin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Marysville Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Paul Whiteford officiating. Burial will follow at York Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Richwood Area Veterans. Friends may call Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Florence, I am so sorry to hear about Charles passing. I truly respected and enjoyed, not only his but Chelsea's, company during the years they were at Mt. Pleasant and the times that I was priviledge to have seen them out and about in the community once he retired. God blessed me in giving me the opportunity to have met both your parents. My children still have the coins from foreign countries that your father gave to Mandy when she was little. He said they weren't worth much, but to them . . . it was a fortune! Best regards, Penny

Dear Florence,

It has been many years since Lil and I visited you at your home in Ohio. Probably the last time was when I preached revival for Charles at the country church he was pastoring. The last time we saw Charles and Chaslea was about 6 years ago at Avon Park, Florida.

We have fond and warm memories of Charles. He was our field director in Honduras for several years and became very dear friends. We are saddened to hear of his passing, but know that his heart was set for heaven.

We send our prayers and thoughts for you as you pass through these difficult days. But do know that He is with the Lord and we have the hope that one day we will be reunited. What a glorious reunion that will be.
