R. Don Davis
R. Don DavisJohn Deere 330R. Don Davis, age 79 of Richwood passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 3:50 PM at Kingston Residence of Marion.  He was born in Richwood on October 15, 1929 to the late D. K. and Lucile (Livingston) Davis.

Don was a lifelong resident of Richwood and a 1947 graduate of Richwood High School.  During his lifetime he wore many hats.  Farming was always a love of his and he loved collecting antique tractors.  In the early 1950s he and his dad founded D. K. Davis and Sons farrier supply company in Richwood which is still in business today with Don’s two sons, Dean and Scott at the helm.  Early in his career, to build the business, Don had started a farrier route in the Sugarcreek area to build relationships and assist the Amish.  Don was proud of these relationships which are still intact today.

He loved collecting antique tractors and cars and going to auctions, fairs and steam shows.

He was always proud of his association with the Union Rural Electric Company in Marysville.  He served on the board for 26 years and during those years he had served as both president and vice president.  He was also on the Soil and Water Conservation board for 20 years and was a member of the Richwood Civic Center.

He has been a life-long and active member of the First United Methodist Church where he married his wife Anita (Mowery) Davis on Christmas Day, 1949.  Anita survives in Richwood.

He has two surviving brothers, Jon (Brenda) Davis, Richwood; Bob (Marcia) Davis, Denver, CO; a step-sister, Anne (Russ) Hahn, Michigan.  Don has been a loving father and grandfather to his surviving children, Cindy Schory, Hubbard; Dean (Beckie) Davis; David (Tracy) Davis and Chanin (Chad) Lowe, all of Richwood; Scott (Lou Ann) Davis of Marysville; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Richwood First United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Rhea officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood.

Memorial gifts may be made to Heartland Hospice, 685 Delaware Ave., Suite 200, Marion, OH  43302 or Loving Care Hospice, P. O. Box 613, Marysville, OH 43040 or Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.

May the Lord be with you all in this hour of need. Our most sincere condolences for your loss. Don was a wonderful man and we feel honored to have spent time on this earth with him. It was always a pleasure to see him. Don would always have a smile on his lips, a good word, and A handshake for all. May God caress your hearts and ease your sorrow with the knowledge that Don is with Him. Don is reaping the eternal rewards that he worked so hard to obtain. Our precious Lord is fulfilling all of Don's needs, hopes and dreams.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Dirk & Gina

I am a friend and business associate of Ken Davis and Sons Farrier Supplies and send my sincere condolences to all the Davis family and extended friends.

This is a loss to the farrier industry as Don helped build one of the leading and most respected companies in North America. I'm sure he must have been proud of the company's growth and reputation. He helped put Richwood on the world horse map, marked by a horseshoe, forevermore. I feel privileged to work with the company he started because the Davises don't just sell horseshoes- - they are in the business.

Anita and Family

I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing.  He was
a special cousin.  I looked forward to my visits
to Ohio and especially  going to Richwood and visiting my "country cousin"  I never realized that you all were just as excited to come to Galion and visit us city folk.  We had a big laugh. I am so thankfulthat my last visit with Don was at the Farm and that we were able to have a nice visit.   God Bless You All and Especially in  This Time.

My sympathy to the family of Don Davis.  I've known Jon for a very short time but his demeanor and kindness I'm sure is an sample of Don. I never had the pleasure of knowing Don but please receive my condolences at this time.  May God sustain you all at this time of loss.
