Delton Kemp
Delton KempWheatDelton Kemp, age 96 of Somersville, died peacefully February 24, 2012 at The Gables at Green Pastures in Marysville.  He was born January 24, 1916 in Willis, Virginia to the late Lawrence and Bessie (Sutphin) Kemp Edmonds.

On August 12, 1937 he married the former Frances Naomi Anderson in Washington Court House and she survives.

He was a Mason and belonged to several antique collector groups.  He had once worked at the former Union County Childrens Home, eventually becoming a benefactor to the organization. A man of quiet deeds, he leaves the legacy of hard work, honesty, and humor to his family. He was a tireless farmer and enthralling story-teller who was always willing to share of himself for the good of others.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Terry Delton (Barb) Kemp, York Center; two grandchildren, Joyce Kemp (Michael) Cameron, Mountain Home, Arkansas; Mark (Sabra) Kemp, York Center; three great-grandchildren, Cole Cameron, Noah Kemp and Logan (Alicia) Rife; two great-great-grandchildren, Jackson A. Kemp and Kailee A. Rife. Delton was one of nine brothers and sisters of which three survive and live in other states.  He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Allen Kemp.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.  Burial will take place at York Cemetery.

He was born in the hills of Virginia and by the age of 13 helped build one of six rock churches which remains in operation today. After leaving Virginia he continued to donate to its needs. A plaque and a pew remain in the church in his honor.  Memorial gifts may be made to Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church, 2012 Childress Road, Willis, VA  24380.

"JESUS is preparing for you a place...and at the right time He will come and take you home."

This past Friday Our Heavenly Father quietly came and carried a great man home. Delton's love and wisdom will be missed here on earth, but his legacy will be carried on through all of you, his loving family.  We pray that as you celebrate his life, recalling many happy memories, that you will find peace in the light of God's wonderful promise.

"In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you."  John 14:2

With Deep Sympathy and Eternal Hope,
Scott and Lou Ann Davis

Terry, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. As one of the Davis sisters, I have very fond memories of you and your Mom and Dad growing up next door to you, you were almost like the brother we never had, although an orniary one at that. I have never forgot when our Grandpa Davis passed away, your folks open your home and hearts to us girls and we stayed with you during that time, you all made that difficult time much brighter.
We just wanted to let you know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless you with his peace and comfort in the days and weeks ahead.
Love and prayers, Peg and Jerry Weaver
