R. Carolyn Hayes
R. Carolyn HayesCrossR. Carolyn Hayes, age 80 of Prospect was called home to be with her Lord on September 11, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was one of eight children, born on November 11, 1931 in Red Branch, West Virginia to the late Orville R. and Freda E. (Williams) Barnett.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert; a sister, Maxine and four brothers, Ray, Harold, Bill and Dick.

On December 2, 1946 she married the love of her life, Kensil Hayes in Dunbar, West Virginia and he survives in Prospect.

She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.  Caring for her family was Carolyn’s biggest passion.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and even took on a full-time second job at Marion General Hospital to give her son a college education.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Jerry Hayes, Prospect; two granddaughters, Tina (Jay) Overton and Gina Boyd, both of Murfreessboro, Tennessee.  She will also be greatly missed by her four great-grandchildren, Kristyne, T’Anna, CJ and Jalen; her sister, Ann Carr, Marion; and a brother, Larry (Sharon) Barnett, Prospect.  Also surviving are two special sisters-in-law, Gilmie, Apache Junction, Arizona; and Faye, Dunbar, West Virginia.

Friends may call Thursday September 13, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Prospect.  Funeral Services will be held Friday September 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Prospect United Methodist Church with Pastors Keith Irey and Carolyn Christman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery.

My deepest condolences in the loss of Carolyn. Remembering when we lived across the street from you folks & my son, Drew, would sneak across the street to get cookies from Carolyn and I would order Avon from Jerry. Wonderful neighbors & great folks! God bless.

So sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing. We lived across the street from her for a short while and she was a good and friendly neighbor. Always friendly and encouraging when chatting with her. A loving person.
