Barbara Carpenter-Castle
Barbara Carpenter-CastleTexas HoldEmBarbara Carpenter-Castle age 65 of LaRue, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, February 26, 2014 at The Ohio State University Medical Center.  She was born August 18, 1948 in Marion to the late Richard H. and Ann (Sica) Thibaut.

On March 22, 2004 she married Hayes Castle in Las Vegas and he survives in LaRue.

She was a 1966 graduate of Elgin High School.  After that she attended Marion Beauty School.  She had been a hair stylist since 1976, owning and operating the Hy-Style Salon in LaRue.  One of Barbara’s true passions was keeping the residents of local nursing homes beautiful.  Barbara enjoyed the residents of Primrose, Delaware Court, Sterling House and Heartland, visiting and doing the ladies’ hair for many years.  She was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of Marion Moose 889, Indian Lake Fraternal Order of the Eagles 3615, Stephen J. Chaney VFW Post 7201, and the Marion Amvets.  She enjoyed gambling, particularly playing Texas Hold ‘Em, and loved fishing, especially at Indian Lake.

She is survived by a son, Richard P. Carpenter, LaRue; a daughter, Krista Carpenter, Marion; two step-children, Terri (Ken) Campbell, Radnor; Lisa Castle, Delaware; two step grandchildren, Austin and Lucinda Gray.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Brandle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marion with Rev. Thomas Buffer officiating.  Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery at a late date.  Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, LaRue where prayer services will be held at 7:00 PM.

Memorial gifts may be made to Marion Moose Family Center 889, 374 North Main Street, Marion, OH  43302.

Barbara will be greatly missed every week at Sterling House. She and her helper come faithfully every week to do the ladies hair and give some of the men a haircut!! We all will miss her cheerful smile. Please know that our love, thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My sympathies and condolences. Barb gave me my first haircut. In life I even was blessed to have her in my life in cosmetology school helping teach my class. She let me shadow her on trips to the nursing home. She is a pure soul and she will be missed! Sending prayers and love for you all!

Barbara was like a mother to me. You could talk to Barbara about anything.  She always brought something positive to the conversation no matter how bad it might be. And, when you were done you always felt better.  She was there for both my husband and I through some really trying times and we will never forget her. We loved her.
