Kathleen “Kathy” (Myers) Shaw
Kathleen “Kathy” (Myers) ShawCrucifixKathleen “Kathy” (Myers) Shaw, 69 of Richwood, formerly of Chicago, Clyde, Delphos and Laurinburg, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly the evening of Saturday, March 22, 2014 of a brain aneurysm.  Heroic efforts by her husband, Ray, the North Union Rescue Squad, and the emergency room staff at Marion General Hospital were unable to save her.

Born October 19, 1944 in Tiffin, she was the daughter of John and Millie (Loverich) Myers of Marion.  On September 18, 1965 she married Raymond L. Shaw in St. Mary Church in Marion and he survives in Richwood.

Kathy is also survived by seven children, Karen (Ed) Waldo of LaRue; Tim (Sharon) Shaw of Sugar Grove; Angie (Mark) Allen of Wapakoneta; Laura (Jon) Conrad of Columbus Grove; Marianne (Brian) Van Voorhis of Reynoldsburg; John (Andrew Ross) Shaw of Columbus; and Jason (Hilary Carpenter) Shaw of Raleigh, NC;  twelve grandchildren, Brett Wiechart, Josh Reel, Joe Schmitz, Jenna Reel, Miranda Allen, David Shaw, Gabriella Larschied, Ben Waldo, Luke Waldo, Avery Van Voorhis, Grace Waldo and Harper Shaw; two great-grandchildren, Mackena Germann and Jaxon Germann, and nine siblings, Richard (Susan) of Cleveland; Gina Blackman of Lewis Center; Pat (Tom) Smith of Haines City, FL; Mark (Mary) of Charlotte, NC; Greg (Myrtle) of Columbus; Tom (Diana) of LaRue; Julie (Mike) Toombs of Marion; Dan (Dorothy) of Richwood; and Chris (Linda) of Franklin, NC.

Kathy was a loving caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, nurse and friend.  A graduate of Marion Catholic High School and Mount Carmel School of Nursing, she was a nurse for several nursing homes in the  cities in which she lived, finally retiring from Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.  Baking, cooking, canning, and taking care of others were her life's works and treasures.  An active and devout member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenton, Kathy laid down her life for her family, her friends, her patients, her Church and her Saviour every minute of every day. Those who are left to miss her can only hope to live their lives half as well and as faithfully, eventually to join her in our eternal and perfect home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenton with Rev. Jeffrey Tigyer officiating.  Private burial in Price Cemetery will take place later that day.  Friends may call Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 3 to 7 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood where a Rosary Service will be held at 7:00.

Never prepared to hear of the sudden death of a friend. Kathy and I spent 12 years together in St Mary's and Marion Catholic and then 3 years together at Mount Carmel where we both became nurses. I will remember Kathy for her love of Ray, her quiet manner and her beautiful smile. My sympathy to all her family.

It is a somber time when a relative passes.  I am saddened Kathy has left us so soon. I didn't know her more than the rare extended family get-togethers but I will remember her as a cousin who selflessly helped others and was always there in a time of need, for her family as well as ours. I am sure Kathy is still with us in that spirit as we grieve this day.
