Ronald Charles "Butch" Lauer
FlagRonald Charles "Butch" Lauer, 49, of Prospect died Friday, June 11.1999,
of heart complications.
He was a sports writer for the Marion Star. He was Prospect Township
clerk and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prospect and the
American Lfegion. He was a 1967 graduate of Elgin High School, where he
held the office of state reporter for the FFA. He attended The Ohio State University,
the University of Maryland and attended college in Seoul, Korea.
He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force in August 1989
after 20 years of service with the National Security Agency. While stationed
in Korea he spent time with children in the hospitals there. At home, he continued
his efforts to bring cheer to children within the community by making,
frequent stops on Christmas Eve.
He was bom Dec. 2, 1949, in Marion to Samuel P. and Kathryn E Carr
Lauer and was predeceased by his father in 1995.
He is survived by his mother; three sisters, Janet Jo (Surinder) Kumar of
Dallas, Texas, Kay Jean (Bill) Furlong andDeeAnn (Robert) Brant of Chicago;
three brothers, Samuel Philip Lauer ffl and Kim Alan (Sandee) Lauer of
Ptospect and Donn Lee (Patricia) Lauer of Raleigh, N.C.; and 10 nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be held at U a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran
Church in Prospect. The Rev. Stephen S. Bull will officiate and burial will be
at the Prospect Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the
Marion County United Veterans Council. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p:m. today^at the Gehm-Ballmger Funeral Home in.Prospect.
Pall bearers will be Donn Lee Lauer, Samuel Philip Lauer, Kim Alan
Lauer, Fred Carr, Dennis McPherson and Brent Middleton. Honorary pall
bearers will be Charles Lauer, Ronnie Carr, Harold Stiffier and Paul Hempy.
In lieu -of flowers,memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect
American Legion, Battle Run Fire and EMS or SrPaul's Lutheran Church
memorial fund. Cards will be available.at the funeral home.
