Charles Roy “Bill” Headington
FlagCharles Roy “Bill” Headington, 85 of Richwood, died Monday morning, June 23, 2014 at the Marion Manor Nursing Home.  He was born February 27, 1929 on the Headington Farm in Byhalia to the late Charles and Omah (Tallman) Headington.

On August 30, 1969 he married the former Rita Lou Rubeck and she survives.

He attended the Richwood Church of Christ and was a 1947 graduate of Byhalia High School.  He worked as a self-employed brick and stone mason, carpenter, woodcraftsman and gun maker.

A veteran of the U. S. Army Signal Corps, he served in Korea during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952, achieving the rank of Corporal.  Bill was a life member of VFW Post 870 in Richwood.  He was proud to have killed a mountain goat in 1961 in Seward, Alaska, which is listed in the Boone and Crockett Club Records of North America.

Bill and Rita traveled in Europe and the Orient, visiting 26 countries and pursuing their interests in history and architecture.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Velda “Peggy” Allison Stanford, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ross Headington, four sisters, Raola Floyd, Catherine Allen Bush, Betty Shawd and Lois Schafer.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Richwood Church of Christ, 29063 Sivey Road, Richwood, OH  43344 from 9:30 to 11:30, where a Celebration of Life will take place at 11:30 AM.  Personal friend, Scot Gorsuch will officiate and burial will follow in the Byhalia Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Richwood Area Veterans.

Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood is in charge of arrangements.

Rita requests memorial contributions to be made to North Union Athletic Boosters for NUHS softball, 401 N. Franklin Street, Richwood, OH  43344.

So sad to hear of Uncle Bill's passing  but he is at peace and no longer suffering.  He is central to so many childhood memories, and he is in my prayers.  Wishing comfort to all who mourn his passing.  Suzy

So sorry to see Bill has passed. I knew he had health problems and it's not easy to see them go so slowly when you care so much for them.

Bill, thank you for your service to the nation.  Condolences to Rita.  I still have the picture of Bill and I fishing up the road from the farm in about 1967.  He told me that 12" carp was the biggest fish he had ever seen in that creek :) That and shooting hawks out of the back of Ross's car would be my fondest memories of "uncle bill".

I never met you but I have been a friend of the family all my life, my mother was a good friend of Katie (Rubie Sheares).
I was in Peggy's wedding and I ask Bill to take me to my junior prom and he accepted.
He was a good guy and he will be missed.
