Bessie Lou Carlyle den Allen and Pheba Marie (Sayre) Meadows. On May 29, 1949 she married Herbert Frances Carlyle in Greenup, Kentucky and he died December 30, 2007. She was also preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters, and two great-grandchildren.

Clair was a longtime member of the Fite Memorial Baptist Church in Marion, he loved his church family. He was a very hard worker his entire life, always providing for his family. He took great pride in taking care of his yard.
Clair was his family’s hero. He was always there for them, whether it was telling stories, game nights or just creating laughter, he loved spending time with his family.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Essex United Methodist Church. He was clerk for many years for Jackson Township and was a member of the Farm Bureau, URE and the Richwood Civic Center. He was a graduate of the Ohio State University with honors with degrees in mathematics and German and was a member of the OSU Alumni Association.
